maddy’s rambles: Ripe or Rotten is a concise summary of discussion about a woman in New Zealand who is planning to videotape her birth for a porn movie.

I have considered this carefully and from a midwifery perspective the woman is still entitled to the services of a midwife, if she is able to find one willing to provide her care.

If she really wanted to be in control of her birth experience she would have chosen a home birth, but I have heard that there are medical reasons for the birth to take place in a hospital. I don’t think she really comprehends what the birth will be like and all plans could well go out the window when she is faced with nature’s unpredictability.

From the baby’s perspective I would not like to have my birth filmed and included in a porn movie. What a lifelong stigma to carry around. However, this does not necessarily make “Nicky” an unfit mother. Babies are not given choices and we rely on the parents to make sensible choices for their offspring. Is circumcision a sensible choice?

As you can see I am procrastinating. I can’t focus on anything, but need to get back to my assignment.

It is wonderful to have your hobby pay for itself. Then Drin will be a bit more tolerant of the time spent on it.

One of my hobbies is my internet work, and I am a hosting reseller and also offer design services in collaboration with two friends from the US. So if you know of anyone who wants some help or space, then send them my way. We are low key and all have the same relaxed friendly attitude.

My involvement at Net Sisters means I send little charms overseas each month to the lucky winner. And with Ladies of the Heart I send out membership cards to the New Zealand members. I know that with the St Pat’s Day gift exchange at Divine Diva’s how much fun it is to receive a gift in the mail from an online friend. It makes you feel cherished and special and makes the connection to the person more real. And phone calls blow me away! I have spoken to both Jo and Contessa and it is wonderful to hear their Southern drawl and hear them remark that I sound British…lol
